The angels bring good news about Jesus

In Luke 2 we read about the good news that the angels bring to the shepherds – Jesus the Savior has been born!

Download the two pages here. On the first page is an explanation of what we learn in the passage. Then, on the second page, is an activity where you have to think about what the good news means to you. You can also read it below.

The good news

On a quiet night outside Bethlehem, some shepherds were sitting in the fields when an angel suddenly appeared. The angel told them that the Saviour had come: Jesus was born!

This was no ordinary announcement. It was the best news the world had ever heard! The Saviour, whom people had been waiting for so long, had finally arrived.

The angel’s words remind us that Christmas is about much more than pretty lights and presents. Christmas is about the great joy that Jesus brings – joy that can live in every heart that makes room for Him.

God is with us

The angel’s message was not only for the shepherds. It is also for us today. When we feel scared, lonely, or sad, Christmas reminds us that God is with us. Jesus, our Saviour, brings good news of salvation, peace in difficult times, and joy to everyone who receives Him. This Christmas we can celebrate with thankful hearts, because God Himself came to live among us.

Questions to think about

  • Why did the angel tell the shepherds not to be afraid?
  • What does it mean to you that Jesus brings “good news”?
  • How does Christmas show you that God is with us?
  • How can you share Jesus’ peace and joy with others this Christmas?

Activity: Make a card

Make a “good news” card. Write or draw what you think the best news of Christmas is (like “Jesus is born!” or “God is with me”).

You can cut out and decorate one of the blocks below. Stick it on your wall, or give it to someone who might feel a little discouraged this Christmas.
