Just think about how scared you would be if you were thrown into a den of lions! This is exactly what happened to Daniel. You can read about what happened to Daniel in your Bible, in Daniel 6:1-23. On this page you can read about Daniel and do some of the activities about his story. The most important thing you have to remember is that God has promised to protect you – just like He protected Daniel.
Daniel and the den of lions
Daniel was a good and hardworking man living in the kingdom of Babylon. King Darius trusted him and made him one of his administrators. The other administrators were jealous of Daniel and looked for a way to get him into trouble! They went to the king and persuaded him to make a new law that for 30 days, no one could worship any god or man, only the king. Anyone praying to any other god would be thrown into the den of lions.
Daniel followed God’s law even when it went against the king’s laws. When he heard about the new law, he continued to pray to God three times a day as he always did. The jealous men told King Darius that Daniel was breaking the law. The king was very sad and didn’t want Daniel to die, but the law could not be changed. So Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. “The king declared to Daniel, ‘May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!’” (Daniel 6:16). A large stone was rolled in front of the den. The king could not sleep the whole night and early morning he went to see what had happened to Daniel. Daniel was alive and well! God had sent his angels to protect Daniel. “So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God” (Daniel 6:23b). The king then made a new law that ordered everyone in his kingdom to respect God who rescued Daniel from the hungry lions.
So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.Daniel 6:23b (ESV)
